So, I've been thinking quite a bit about what I'd want to write about in here, and I've decided to give politics a bit of a rest. For someone who hates politics, I sure do obsess about it. How about we start off with The Office then?
Now that TV writers are getting paid, Thursdays are back to being the nights that I wish I could fully pay attention to the TV while healing my guild through the first parts of Karazhan. And thanks to NBC's full embrace of the internet, I can catch up on it all. This weeks Office didn't take place at Dunder-Mifflin at all, but was probably the most uncomfortable it's ever been.
I've also started watching The Tick. There's a only a few episodes, and he hasn't yelled, "Spoon!" in any of the episodes, but it is rather fun to watch the precursor to Heroes, only with better costumes.
Now, about my rather diverse musical tastes. I think I can boil down my current musical tastes to a handful of people. First of all, Emily has introduced bluegrass to my life. The only bluegrass I have in my player is from Old Crow Medicine Show, which Dave introduced me to, but I don't think I would have liked it as much without Em's influence. She plays the banjo, and if I was to kick my own butt, I would pick up my dobro and get my groove on. So now I fully appreciate Allison Kraus. My bro Dave is responsible for leaking new music into my life. My Chemical Romance is all thanks to him (even though they aren't entirly new). He is hip and with it, the type of person every new father needs. Anything Hippie related is my Dad's fault. His life has been greatly influenced by Jim Morrison. My Mom is the classical music influence. I think this goes back to when she taught dance on Saturday mornings at UNLV.
Metallica is still my favorite band deep down, but I only listen to them when I am alone, and then I turn it up REAL loud.

i can totally see you listening to metallica like that. enter sandman was on the radio the other day and andrew says "i like this song mom". nice. matt isn't a fan, but thats ok. metallica isn't for everyone. you didn't mention harry or francis....i can figure out why francis, but harry? or do you even still like him? you sure made me a lot of tapes with him on it. which i wish still worked.. so sad.... especially that one that has the cellos playing a metallica song. i should find that one.
Ah, Metallica! You, know, I still have my 'Ride the Lightening' CD that the Bob purchased me for my birthday years ago. However, it has been confiscated by my husband- he says my lack of knowledge of rock music in general means I am not worthy to be the owner of the CD.
Funny you should mention Metallica- I recently ordered the Black Album and finally got it today- in fact, I just finished listening to it. That is definitely an album you need to listen to with the volume way up! (I like to think of it as my venting CD- the kind I can listen to when I want to let loose on feelings of frustration...)
And I have to ask, having just listened to "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" on your blog, where on EARTH did you find that?! It is HILARIOUS!
love it!
Yeah- I had some time while I was grading students' folders, so I watched both "The Office" and "The Tick." So Funny! I have only recently discovered how funny The Office really is. I think it's one of those shows you have to get used to... once you're familiar with the style, it is absolutely hilarious! ONe of my goals this summer is to try to catch up. Fortunately, I have friends who have the first few seasons on DVD!
Loved it, Joe- Thanks for the amusing diversion. It definitely made the grading go faster!
Love The Office too! I just had a conversation the other day about how music has such an amazing way of taking you back to the time you listened to it. It's so nostalgic and memory-inducing. I may have even blogged about that myself. Anyway, these days I mostly listen to my "pump-up" songs when I exercise, kids' music with my children. Every now and then I put on Jack Johnson. I really like him.
Once upon a time, there were quite a few Metallica songs I liked. But, it's been a while since I listened to them. :)
